Food, Family and Faith: Why I'm Here and Where I Came From

Years ago, I poured over a desk. A bride would come in with an idea and I'd run with it. I'd like a brunch wedding she'd say, small, intimate...my mind would be taken away and instantly I'd begin to think. Bar Rounds, long linens, gentle colors, for the morning sun. I'd imagine sweet flowers and a harpist, bringing a couple together, not for the day but a lifetime. No matter how hard I tried, the centerpieces with mirrors and vases didn't make sense and I wanted more. At home, I'd pull dinners together and title them "tofu surprise" and often the surprise was that I could take Tofu, hand it to my meat eating husband and he'd devour it, asking for seconds. Years have passed. Children have arrived and the single best piece of parenting advice came from a dear friend "You are not a diner". She shared the fact that as children, they should try.
