Food, Family and Faith: Why I'm Here and Where I Came From

Years ago, I poured over a desk. A bride would come in with an idea and I'd run with it. I'd like a brunch wedding she'd say, small, intimate...my mind would be taken away and instantly I'd begin to think. Bar Rounds, long linens, gentle colors, for the morning sun. I'd imagine sweet flowers and a harpist, bringing a couple together, not for the day but a lifetime.

No matter how hard I tried, the centerpieces with mirrors and vases didn't make sense and I wanted more. At home, I'd pull dinners together and title them "tofu surprise" and often the surprise was that I could take Tofu, hand it to my meat eating husband and he'd devour it, asking for seconds.

Years have passed. Children have arrived and the single best piece of parenting advice came from a dear friend "You are not a diner". She shared the fact that as children, they should try. With my own knowledge and schooling holding that same sentiment that children need to be exposed to foods at least 10 times before accepting some.

We've had five kids, and most will eat nearly everything we put before them and if they don't, they know to try it and that the consequence is yogurt for dinner and not a Danimal or a YoCrunch.

This year, I began working once again, and I was not excited but elated to be working in customer service for an amazing company, Marquette Castings. I've added enameled dutch ovens to my repertoire, a double sided griddle and cast iron that most people dream of and while I was collecting these amazing pieces I can pass to my children and help create nutritious meals with an opportunity arose to do some more "food work" with a local farm I moonlight at.

I also realized I have a deep Love Affair with all things Ree Drummond and The Pioneer Woman. In fact, my birthday pretty much encompassed all gifts Ree! With new dishes, food back on my mind and nutrition back in my heart, I decided it was time to step off the proverbial ledge and jump back into cooking and creating.

We have a large family, five kids. one with additional needs, another who is a vegetarian and another who may just survive on meat if that was an option. So many times I have been asked "what is that recipe" and honestly, I just don't know...so to put an end to it, I have decided to start the blog. Recipes, Restaurants and all things food, family and faith.

I'm no professional but I promise we'll have fun.
